Flags to be lowered Monday to honor Detroit officer

Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff Monday in honor of a Detroit police officer who was killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Snyder's order covers all state buildings and flags within the state Capitol complex. Others are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff as well.

A man has been charged with second-degree murder the death of Officer Myron Jarrett, who was assisting a traffic accident investigation when he was struck Oct. 28 night and thrown 30 feet.

Jarrett served with the Detroit Police Department for eight years.

Jarrett's funeral is Monday in Detroit.

In a statement, Snyder says Jarrett "will be forever honored for his dedication to the people of Detroit and our state.
