LANSING, Mich. — Governor Whitmer ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the State Capitol Complex be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Sept. 19, to honor former Senator Gary Corbin.

Corbin, 77, died July 12 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Sheila and two daughter, Sally and Susan, as well as three grandchildren.

Corbin began his career as a pastor at the Community Church of God before winning a seat on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners in 1970.

In 1974, he was elected to the Michigan State Senate where he served until 1986.

The flags will be returned to full-staff on Friday, Sept. 20.
