It's June 14 and that means it's Flag Day across the nation.

In East Lansing, the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes are sponsoring a Flag Retiring Ceremony for unserviceable American Flags.

More than 300 tattered and worn American flags will be deconstructed and ceremoniously disposed of in a fire by members of Chief Okemos District Boy Scout Troop 2, Chartered by the Peoples Church of East Lansing.

Trumpeter Devon Staples will perform "Taps" in honor of the men and women who answered the call to duty in service to our nation.

The event is open to the public and is free.

The funeral home is located at 1730 E. Grand River Avenue in East Lansing.

And they do accept flags for this ceremony every day. There is a drop box by the entrance of the funeral home where flags can be deposited.

Refreshments will follow the ceremony.
