Some homeowners in Meridian Township will be getting an extra layer of protection for their families, thanks to a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The Meridian Township Fire Department will get $66,000 to purchase and install 2,500 combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
The department has not received the alarms yet.
Officials tell us they will release more details on how people can get the alarms soon.
