Fire damages Old Town building

Posted

Two people are out of their homes after a fire broke out in their Old Town apartment building Saturday night. Firefighters were called to the scene just before 11 p.m. at the intersection of Grand River and High Street.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters say it might have started in a kitchen. Lansing fire department PIO Charles Stadt says no one was home at the apartment where the fire started. A man who lives in the other apartment in the building was treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital. He is expected to be okay.

The apartments are above the Pop-Ity Popcorn Company store, which did sustain water damage. The store has been in Old Town since 1982. It's unknown at this time if the store will be able to re-open on Monday.
