Investigators say a fire at a Flint-area house where an 80-year-old woman died has been determined to be arson.

The Flint Journal reports Willma Trammell was pronounced dead at the scene March 12 at the home in Genesee County's Mount Morris Township.

Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser says the cause of the fire was arson.

Mount Morris Township police Chief Terence Green says detectives are awaiting a completed autopsy report to determine whether the death is ruled a homicide.

Firefighters faced heavy flames when they arrived at the home. Police have said a township officer saved a pet from inside the home.
