The annual CDC survey shows that approximately 14 percent of adults smoked cigarettes last year, the lowest level ever recorded.

The decline was also reported among young adults, about 10 percent of 18 to 24 year-olds smoked cigarettes last year, which is down from 13 percent from the pervious year.

However, nearly 47 million adults have used some form of a tobacco product last year, including a variety of e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and hookahs.

According to the CDC, cigarette smoking kills an estimated 480-thousand Americans every year, and another 16 million suffer from a smoking-related illness.
