EAST LANSING, Mich. — On Wednesday, a federal judge denied a move by MSU to reject a lawsuit that was filed by a woman who claims she was raped by three former Spartan basketball players in 2015.

In his ruling, Judge Paul Maloney said it's "plausible" MSU covered up sexual assault claims brought against its athletes leaving female students like Bailey Kowalski vulnerable.

Kowalski has since graduated and went public with her allegations last spring.

In her lawsuit, Kowalski claims university counselors discouraged her from reporting the assault to police.

Kowalski's attorney, Karen Truszkowski, told FOX 47 News "we appreciate the well-reasoned opinion of the judge and look forward to the next steps in the case."

Fox 47 will continue to follow the case.
