Fatal crash Monday morning in Lenawee Co. closes down road

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A crash on Monday morning took the life of a driver in Lenawee County.

It happened around 2:08 a.m. on May 5.

The Lenawee County Sheriff's says that a Dodge Charger traveling northbound on US-223 near Sanford Road, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck a semi truck that was loaded with lumber.

The truck landed in the southbound ditch while the Charger stopped in the northbound ditch.

Both vehicles and the road around them, caught fire.

The driver of the semi was able to escape with minor injuries, however the person driving the Charger died at the scene.

US-223 is currently closed at Sanford Road and is expected to remain closed until early afternoon as the scene is investigated.

The crash is being investigated by the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Michigan State Police Accident investigation team. Addison and Somerset Fire Departments also responded.

The deceased driver was the only person in of the Charger and was from the Brooklyn area.

At this time, Lenawee County Detectives are working on making a positive identification on him.
