UPDATE: Police identify pedestrian hit by car Sunday night

UPDATE (9:00 am Monday):

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office has identified the pedestrian hit by a car Sunday night in Eaton Rapids.

Police say 61-year-old Violet Copeland and her dog were killed as they were walking on S. Main Street near Elizabeth Street just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The vehicle that hit them was traveling north on S. Main Street and the 44-year-old male driver was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.


Police responded to a fatal car versus pedestrian accident in Eaton Rapids Sunday Night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Main street between South and Park streets.

The stretch of road remained closed as the investigation continued.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Department is assisting Eaton Rapids Police.
