EAST LANSING, Mich. — A family is worried about a stranger-danger situation.
They say a man not only stalked two sisters, but also tried to run over their father when he tried to confront him.
The father says he never thought his daughters would be in any kind of danger in their own neighborhood.
But when they called him afraid he knew he had to do something.
"You hear all the things about sex trafficking, and you wonder if that's what it was, or if he was a pedophile, or if he was trying to expose himself," said the father, who asked to remain anonymous. "You have no idea what his plans were...it's very frustrating and scary that my daughter was almost a victim..."
His daughter was walking home from the store.
When she noticed a van following her into her neighborhood, she called her dad.
"I immediately sprung out of my chair and went out of the front door," he said.
He sneaked up on the driver and asked what he was doing.
“He asked me if her name was Crystal," he said, "and I said that her name was my daughter, and I want to know why you were following her...he put his truck in reverse, stomped on the gas and tried to hit me."
That's when they called the police.
"On Wednesday, we located and identified the driver of the van. We spoke with him, conveyed our concerns, and at this time there are no charges," said Lieutenant Rick Grillo of the Meridian Township Police.
The father says it's not the first time this van was in the area.
"Somewhere around Tuesday or Wednesday the week before is when he followed my fifteen year old...it's a shame they can't walk a block to the store and get a soda."
Police say don't wait if you see something unusual.
"Let us know right away if you're uncomfortable, the sooner the better. We can come to the area and give assistance if needed," said Grillo.
The father says that he and his wife plan to pay a lot more attention to their kids, warning others to do the same.
"It definitely opened our eyes and changed our outlook on even our neighborhood that even we thought was pretty secure."
