The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.

Whitney Marshall, a teacher at Long Meadow Elementary in Rochester, Michigan, is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner.

Her nominator says, "I like Ms. Marshall because she made the maker space and before it used to be just the computer lab."

Whitney stated that last year was the first year that she was able to be out of the classroom to be in the library. So I have a very interesting chance to talk with all the kids in the school. It's just exciting to see them grow and change. Especially these days when kids are on their iPhones so much. So really seeing the kids interact face to face is a special thing.

Tracy I truly believe that you have changed the trajectory for many of our most neediest kids to be successful.  That's why she is this week's excellence in education award winner.

Tracy was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her class will receive a $500 grant!

The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $20 billion to support public education since 1972!
