The ex-wife of the inmate who opened fire inside a courthouse in Berrien County, Michigan says Larry Darnell Gordon was not a monster.
Jessica Gordon says her ex-husband was an amazing man, a good father-- who just got mixed up with the wrong people.
Just days after the ambush of police in Dallas, Texas, two bailiffs were killed in the line of duty.
Authorities say 44-year-old Gordon was being taken from a holding cell to his court hearing Monday afternoon when he grabbed a deputy's gun and shot and killed two bailiffs. Another deputy and a civilian woman were also wounded.
The bailiffs who died have been identified as 61-year-old Joseph Zangaro and 63-year-old Ronald Kienzle.
Shockingly, the Berrien County Sheriff admitted Gordon was not handcuffed as he was being transported. Sheriff Paul Bailey says there was no information or indication the inmate was violent.
Court records show Gordon was jailed on several felony charges including two counts of criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping charges, assault with a weapon, and domestic violence.
Jessica Gordon says she doesn't want speculation or lies being spread about her ex-husband. She says he was probably afraid of going to prison and just wanted to get home "to our baby girl and me".
