A former Macomb County elected official has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit federal program fraud as part of a trash hauling scandal investigation.
Ex-Chesterfield Township Supervisor Michael Lovelock appeared Thursday in federal court in Port Huron.
Lovelock is accused of accepting $30,000 in bribes from a company that was doing business with the township. He lost a re-election bid on Nov. 8, a week before his arrest.
Lovelock is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 5. The government is recommending a sentence of 3 years and 10 months.
Chuck Rizzo, former chief executive of Rizzo Environmental Services, was charged Wednesday with bribery and conspiracy. He is accused of paying bribes to get work in Clinton, Macomb and Chesterfield townships.
About a dozen people have been charged in the case.
