Dozens of band students from Lansing's Everett High School left Wednesday morning for Washington D.C where they'll perform at the "Welcome Celebration Concert" at the Lincoln Memorial Thursday night.
The band director, Penny Filonczuk, tells us as much as the trip is an honor to be part of she hopes the students take life-lessons away from it as well.
"I hope the kids learn about America, I hope they learn to be good citizens, to get out and vote, to educate themselves about this country. I hope they remember all the good people that supported us on this trip," said Filonczuk.
The group raised about 30,000 of the 36,000 needed to cover the cost of the trip.
