JACKSON, Mich. — A storage company in Jackson wants to help fight hunger during the government shutdown.
Essential storage is holding a food drive starting next Friday, February first through the fifteenth.
A manager at the facility say she was inspired to organize the collection -- because she has friends directly affected. We talked to an air traffic controller in Lansing -- who says the shutdown has affected his family's bottom line.
Larry Fischer, a NATCA union Lansing representative and also an air traffic controller in Lansing stated about the shutdown: "Do I pay food for my family or do I buy gas for work? That's kind of, it hasn't gotten 100% to that point, but it's coming up quickly and it's kind of in the back of all of our heads and it's kind of scaring us."
Donations made to the storage company will go to compassionate ministries and Jackson community food pantry.
