MID-MICHIGAN (WSYM) - Many pets in Mid-Michigan found a new forever home thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation’s ‘Empty the Shelter’ event.

Over 100 animal shelters across the country take part in the program which waives fees for those adopting pets. New owners are still responsible for paying local licensing fees.

The Empty the Shelter event was held May 5, 2018.

According to the Ingham County Animal Shelter, nearly 10 dogs were adopted Saturday and multiple cats.

The Capital Area Humane Society tells News 10 25 dogs were adopted, 18 cats, two rabbits, and one guinea pig.

23 cats and 15 dogs were adopted at the Jackson County Animal Shelter.

The Bissell Pet Foundation’s goal is to help reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues and to find a loving home for every pet.
