Employees react to GM laying off 1,100 at Delta Twp. Plant

General Motors announced Monday that 1,100 employees will be laid off at the GM Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant, as the automaker cuts its third shift and moves to a two-shift operation.

The nation’s largest automaker, is phasing out production of its GMC Acadia SUV at its Delta Township Assembly plant , but will continue to produce the Buick Enclave and the Chevrolet Traverse.

May 12 will be the last day the Delta Township Assembly plant will operate as a three-shift operation.

"We have every indication to believe the Delta Township Assembly plant will be back up and running with three shift operations," says Bill Reed, president of UAW Local 602.

The plant employees over 3,000 hourly workers and 250 salaried workers.
