LANSING, Mich. — Volunteers gathered on Monday morning to create a variety of kits for those in need.
Sixty-six employees from the Astera Credit Union donated their free time on President's Day with the Capital Area United Way to prepare financial literacy and budget kits for children and adults, interview kits, personal hygiene kits and even encouragement cards for Lansing Promise graduates.
"We are fortunate to have good jobs, warm shelter and even an education," said Chris Tyler, senior vice president of operations at Astera. "Not everyone in our community has those advantages, so Astera believes it's an important part of our culture to help others through service opportunities like this for employees. We make it easy for employees to volunteer, which mobilizes hundreds of hours of volunteerism for the community."
The volunteering took place at the Marshall Street Armory in Lansing.
