It was an exciting evening for the community Thursday as the Eaton Rapids Medical center hosted an open house and ribbon cutting event to celebrate their recently completed expansion.
The open house featured a free heath fair which offered spinal screenings, cholesteral, glucose, and blood pressure checks as well as lots of giveaways for the public.
"We've added 25,000 square feet to our existing 98,000," Lindsay Peters Director of Marketing and Development said.
The Eaton Rapids Medical Center is a critical access hospital and although the expansion will not necessarily feature new services, it will provide more exam rooms, space, and offices in a much nicer environment.
The hospital plans to move family practice and urgent care to the new center as well as physical therapy and other practices.
The center will begin moving over departments one at a time starting on May 8, after which the new addition will become fully operational.
Timothy Johnson President and CEO said, "This is probably eighteen years in the making and to finally have this come to fruition is just fantastic. It's going to be so much better for our caregivers to have this kind of environment where we can provide this kinds of care."
ERMC also hopes the expansion will help the hospital attract more physicians to the area.
