Voters in East Lansing approved a city income tax proposal 58 percent to 42 percent in Tuesday's primary election.

The plan will try to solve the city's $90-million underfunded pension problem.

It would tax people who live in the city at 1 percent and tax people who work in the city at 0.5 percent.

Voters rejected a similar proposal last November.
