East Lansing's Center City District project is going vertical.

Tuesday the city held a "beam raising" ceremony at the construction site between Albert and Grand River avenues.

The base of the project is complete, and crews are now working on building the upper levels.

The development will include hundreds of apartments, retail shops, and a Target store.

Mayor Mark Meadows says the project signifies a committment to downtown East Lansing.

The $125 million dollar project includes two buildings, one ten stories, and the other eleven stories.

The Target store is expected to open next Spring, and the entire project is expected to finish up late next Summer.
