The new $130,000,000 housing Center City Project coming to the central part of East Lansing is 30 years in the making. East Lansing's Mayor, Mark Meadows, wanted to get as much community input as possible.

"We have surveyed our citizens repeatedly to find what you want in a downtown and in fact the university student commission this year, brought up the subject of things they'd like to see," he said.

The CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership, Bob Trezise said this is not only good for students because it's close to campus, but the whole community.

"People over use the term transformational, but this is really a pivotal project that's going to be enormous for the city of East Lansing," Bob Trezise said.

The project will create as many as 500 temporary construction jobs, and 75 to 100 permanent jobs within the development.

"It provides a place that our corporations are looking to help track talent they need at their corporations as well, so this is a grand slam, home run for not only the city, but for Michigan State and the whole region," Trezise added.

They're also hoping it will help local businesses by drawing more people to the Albert Avenue area.
