The East Lansing Fire Department has new equipment to help save lives. The Kiwanis Club of East Lansing and the MSU Federal Credit Union went in together, and donated two thermal imaging cameras.
The groups also bought chargers, batteries, and a warranty for the cameras.
Dawn Carson, Deputy Chief, East Lansing Fire Department, said,"The thermal imaging camera is a device that allows us to see through darkness or smoke, things that the normal eye can't see. It identifies heat signatures, it can be used for fires, finding people outside of a car accident, using it for a hazmat situation and several different things."
The new cameras replace outdated technology. They're also a lighter weight, which firefighters say helps because they're already weighed down with so much gear. They expect to be able to find people quicker and be safer in rescue missions thanks to the donations.
