East Lansing declares snow emergency

The city of East Lansing has declared a snow emergency due to a winter storm that is leaving the area covered with several inches of snow.

City manager George Lahanis announced in a press release that on-street parking will be prohibited from 10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 through 5 pm Thursday, February 25, 2016 to allow snow plows to clean city streets.

Additionally, East Lansing City Hall, the East Lansing 54B District Court, and the East Lansing Department of Public Works will be closing early today at 3 p.m. and opening late tomorrow at 10 a.m. so that non-essential personnel can travel to and from work safely.

The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) and ELPL 2.0 Maker Studio will also be closing early today at 3 p.m. and will have normal operational hours tomorrow.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center will be closing early today at 5 p.m. and will be opening late tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The East Lansing Planning Commission and ELPL Board of Trustees meetings scheduled for this evening are canceled.

The Planning Commission’s agenda items will be placed on the agenda for the next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, March 23.
