A relatively new recall could involve some old flour. Bags of Gold Medal, Wondra, and Signature Kitchens flour could have been on the shelves since at least December, and have been recalled due to a possible E. Coli infestation.
Ten million pounds of flour have been recalled because of 38 cases of sickness in 20 states as a result of E. coli O121. Four of those cases are in Michigan, and one in Ingham County.
The symptoms are pretty bad: nausea, cramping, and even bloody diarrhea.
To check if flour that you own is affected by the recall, you can check the expiration date and then check the list of flour recalled here.
Stores and organizations, like the greater Lansing food bank are taking precautions to ensure they don't give away recalled flour.
"[The process] is very miticulous but we want to make sure to do it," says Justin Rumenapp, the media coordinator of the greater Lansing food bank.
Fortunately, the food bank had none of the recalled flour on their shelves. They do send out the notification to all their partners, churches, and kitchens they work with just in case, though.
