The Michigan State Police have announced their results from National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
The Jackson post collected 60 pounds of prescription drugs.
All 30 Michigan State Police (MSP) posts participated in the one-day effort collecting a total of 802 lbs. of prescription narcotics.
People who were not able to participate on Saturday, October 28, can still take part in take-back day. They can drop off their unused and unwanted medications at any MSP post. They can do this anonymously, Monday through Friday between 8 and 4 during the day.
Research shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. And Americans should be advised that disposing of drugs the old way, flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, pose safety and health hazards.
