In Jackson, another drug summit taking place this week as a drug epidemic jolts the city.
For weeks there have been numerous calls of people overdosing on heroin. In October, four people overdosed within a mile of each other.
Authorities have had to use Narcan numerous times to revive addicts. Police fear some people might be using synthetic opioids like fentanyl or even carfentanil, which can be 100 times more potent than heroin itself.
The Jackson County Sheriff will be on hand at the summit Friday morning to discuss how drug use is affecting the Jackson community.
The summit will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. at Jackson College in the Potter Center. Topics of discussion will include impacts of drugs on families, common types of drugs and resources for recovery.
