Fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition.
But they can be dangerous, loud, and cause distress for people and pets.
This year "Digital Fireworks" are lighting up the sky on Independence Day. It's a drone light show, with hundreds of drones moving in a 3D display.
Some of the biggest drone light shows are powered by Intel, and have been displayed at Disney World, Coachella, and even the Olympic Games.
Traditional fireworks killed 8 people in 2017, and injured almost 13,000. Drone shows could provide a safer alternative that also alleviates wildfire risk, noise, and pollution.
Intel is planning to launch 500 specialized "shooting star" drones for the Fourth of July show. But don't expect a grand finale.
The Intel shooting star drone features built-in LED lights that can create more than four billion color combinations.
A performance at Travis Air Force Base is open to the public for a limited number of guests. The drone light show will take place between 9 and 10 p.m. On July fourth.
