Lansing police investigators have identified the driver involved in what they thought was a hit-and-run crash that left several people hurt on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Cedar Street at Paris and police say speed may have played a role in the accident that involved two cars.
The police are seeking criminal charges for a 34-year-old man from Lansing who was the driver involved in what police thought was a hit-and-run.
News 10 inquired about some facts that didn't add up in the story and was told on Monday that the driver did not flee the scene but was there all along.
"It's one of those situations where you're involved in an accident and you see the severity of it and maybe that's what you decide to do is not tell the truth. Unfortunately, this person is going to pay the consequences for it. There's going to be some charges. There were some people seriously hurt," said Robert Merritt of the Lansing Police Department.
Police are now reporting that the 34-year-old man originally told them that the driver of the first car fled after the accident occurred.
It wasn't until Sunday that the police were able to determine that the man who was with the banged-up car was, in fact, the driver, and he had lied to the police the day before, according to police.
There was a 28-year-old Lansing woman as his passenger. Neither of them was injured.
Four people were in the second vehicle and all were taken to the hospital.
A 32-year-old Lansing woman was the driver, she has minor injuries. Her passenger, a 54-year-old Lansing woman also had minor injuries. Other passengers were a 17-year-old Lansing boy who has been upgraded to stable condition, and a 2-year-old Lansing boy, who has life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
If you have any information, Lansing police are asking that you give them a call.
