Driver crashes, flees after police pursuit

LESLIE, Mich. (WSYM) - State Police are searching for a man who lead officers on a pursuit through multiple Mid-Michigan communities Sunday morning. The chase ended when the driver crashed his pickup truck in Leslie.

Police were out for hours searching the area where the crash happened, near the intersection of Fitchburg and Jackson Roads. Officers have not released many details about the investigation, but tell us the man lost control and went off the road crashing into a corn field. He then ran from the scene.

Police searched the field as well as the yards of nearby homes. They brought in a state police helicopter and K-9 teams to help in that search.

Officers says this started as a theft investigation by Blackman-Leoni Public Safety, they have not released more details about that investigation, but they say it then turned into a pursuit when State Police in Jackson tried to pull the driver over. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the pursuit.

Police have not released a description of the suspect, describing his as a white male.

Numerous law enforcement agencies are investigating this incident including Blackman-Leoni Public Safety, State Police, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, and Ingham County Sheriff's Department.
