MASON, Mich. — 160 dog license citations were issued during a dog license sweep in February and March in Ingham County.
The initiative was announced in February with the participation of both Ingham County Animal Control director Jodi Lebombard and Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing.
The two officials hit the streets with Animal Control Officers educating the public and enforcing the dog licensing laws.
According to Ingham County Animal Control, there were 1245 licenses sold in February and 1452 licenses sold in March.
Licensing sweeps will continue through the month of April.
Michigan law requires every dog to have a license and not having one in Ingham County is a misdemeanor offense.
The cost of a one year license in Ingham County is $15 if the dog has already been spayed or neutered. The cost is $45 if the animal is not spayed or neutered. In order to purchase a dog license, the dog also must have a current rabies vaccination.
Cats are not required to be licensed. Ingham County Animal Control recommends a current rabies vaccination for the pet’s safety.
Ingham County Animal Control hosts monthly vaccination and licensing clinics to Ingham County pet owners.
The next vaccination clinic is May 3rd at the Leroy Township Fire Station in Webberville from noon to 4 p.m.
