OKEMOS, Mich. — Summer construction is in full swing in the Downtown Okemos area.

This is all to prepare for the Village of Okemos Redevelopment Project.

The Wolverine Building Group is taking the steps to make sure the soil and water are free of toxic chemicals.

In order to get the contaminated soil out they have to dig it up.

"In preparation for the big dig for the mass excavation is were driving sheet piling behind me which essentially supports the road for us to do excavation right beyond the edge of the road limits," said Randy Baker, the director of construction.

Once the construction is complete they will open Hamilton road and part of Ardmor road back up.

They are encouraging drivers to use the alternative exit that will take you up Okemos road.

The Meridian Township board is meeting on July, 9th to vote on the Village of Okemos site plan.

This will determine the projects that will go on after the site is free of toxic chemicals.
