Dogs Vs. Cats Presidential Race raises funds for rescues

Posted

A local pet store is holding their own presidential race, and is hoping that the candidates will be able to raise money to help support pet rescues in mid-Michigan.

Soldan’s Pet Supplies is holding a Dog Vs. Cat Presidential Race until  8 p.m. Tuesday. Polling locations can be found at all Soldan’s Pet Supplies locations.

Voters will be able to cast their ballots for dogs and cats. But, if the two party system is working for you, you can always write in your own animal nominee.

According to a press release, patriotic wear is encouraged, but not required. People can bring their whole family and their pets to get a picture taken in front of the “voting booth.” Voters can also use #VoteSoldans, #WhyIVotedDogs, #WhyIVotedCats to help campaign for for their candidate on social media.

Each $1 per vote, and there are no limits, will directly benefit the animal rescue group of the voters choice. Once the polls are closed, Soldan’s will match the donations dollar for dollar.

“All of the negativity this election has brought about got us thinking, why not host our own presidential race?” says Nikki Soldan, Business Development Manager of Soldan’s Pet Supplies. “We have a smooch your pooch kissing booth that we bring out for events that we retrofitted into a voting booth. You even get a ‘I voted at Soldan’s’ sticker & a $5 bounce back coupon to thank you for helping us raise money for our local rescues.”

Voters can make your donation to any of the following participating pet rescue organizations: Capital Area Humane Society, Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, Gone 2 the Dogs Pet Rescue, SMART Paws, Humane Animal Treatment Society, Humane Society of Bay County, Michigan, Humane Society of Midland County, Voiceless-MI, Naked K9 & Small Dog Rescue, The Kitten Nursery, G.R.A.C.E.
