LANSING, Mich. (WSYM) — Movement is being made in Michigan legislature as the lame duck session continues.

Thursday night lawmakers voted to regulate dog sales and restrict local bans on pet shops.

One measure would prohibit municipalities from arbitrarily banning pet shops.

Supporters of the bill say it will encourage breeding and selling healthy dogs.

Those opposed say it makes it easier for puppy mills to operate.

The bill is headed to the governor's desk..
