The shooting at a school in Lansing last Friday was an accident according to State Police.

Court documents FOX 47 News obtained Tuesday afternoon show what Police think happened outside the Pattengill Academy.

The day before the shooting Khalil Withers-Fleming purchased a gun from Dicker & Deal.

The day of the shooting Khalil was in the backseat of a vehicle that arrived at Pattengill Middle School in Lansing. The vehicle was there to pick up a student.

Police say Withers-Fleming had put the gun in the backseat of the vehicle for safety reasons. He noticed it had slid under the seat to where he was seated and tried to pick it up.

When he picked up the gun it went off, striking the 15-year-old victim in the face. The victim had been sitting in the backseat behind the front passenger.

The victim has since been released from the hospital and is expected to be okay.

Khalil is expected back in court next week. FOX 47 News will keep tracking this story for you.
