DIMONDALE, Mich. — A woman is asking her neighbors to be on the lookout for a man knocking on doors asking for gas and she thinks it's a scam.
This woman wanted to remain anonymous, but described what happened Tuesday night. She said that a man approached a family member's home on East Willbur Highway off of M-99 in
Dimondale asking for gallons of gas.
When she followed him back to his van, she noticed his tank wasn't empty and he drove off. She just wants her neighbors to be aware of a possible scam and to lock their doors.
"I would be more worried that they would break into a vehicle or into a house," she said. "People think that they're not vulnerable in the country, but they are."
A woman was in the passenger seat of the gold-colored van.
FOX 47 News did reach out to the Eaton County Sheriff's Office to confirm if this is some type of scam, but we haven't heard back.
The woman told us that officers did talk to the man, but didn't arrest him because he hadn't committed any crime.
