If you haven't filed your taxes yet, do not panic!
You have until April 17th to file and pay your return without penalty.
The deadline usually lands on April 15th. But because the 15th landed on a Sunday and Monday is Emancipation Day, the deadline is pushed back. (Emancipation Day is a holiday unique to Washington D.C.)
If you need more time to file, you can request an extension by going to the IRS website. (Link provided)
Extensions are free and give people until October 15th to file. However, you will still need to pay on time if you owe any taxes.
