It looks like lawmakers have reached a deal to spend 500-million dollars on a Detroit schools rescue.

The "Detroit news" reports the money would be used to pay off the district's debt and cover start up costs for a new district.

The governor and senate leaders had to drop a proposal to allow the new district to control charter schools in order to get house leaders to agree.

A vote could come next week.
