EATON COUNTY, Mich. — A Detroit man was sentenced Friday to up to 72 years in prison for the July shooting death of a Lansing man.

Nathaniel Marcelious-Antonio Bowers, 24, faces a minimum of 42 years and a maximum of 72 years in prison for second-degree murder and felony firearm in the death of Trevon Rashad McDuffy, a 22-year-old Lansing man.

Bowers pleaded guilty to both charges Nov. 28. The original charge of first-degree murder was dismissed in the plea agreement.

During the guilty plea, Bowers told Eaton County Circuit Court Judge John Maurer that he shot McDuffy eight times. He admitted that he intended to kill McDuffy when he shot him with a 9mm handgun, according to a press release.

“A young man’s life was brutally cut short in broad daylight. The McDuffy family and I are satisfied that the defendant will now serve a lengthy prison sentence before he can be considered for release into the community by the Parole Board,” said Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney Douglas R. Lloyd.

Bowers will be in his mid-60s by the time he's eligible to be considered for parole by the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Board.
