LANSING, Mich. — Detroit police say a gas station clerk accidentally, who was trying to shoot a potato chip thief, accidentally wounded a bystander instead.
Authorities say the young man was shot in the chest last night on the city's west side when the clerk fired through the gas station's glass door trying to hit a different person who left without paying for several bags of chips.
The victim is in the hospital in serious condition.
Both the clerk and the suspected thief have been detained, but no one has been charged so far.
