Jackson's Mayor will face a challenger in the November election.
Vice Mayor Derek Dobies announced Monday he is running for Mayor against Bill Jors, saying he'll be the new, energetic leadership fighting for progress toward a brighter future for Jackson.
The mayoral race could be a contentious one.
In a statement, Dobies says "I'm not scared of pushing and challenging the good ol' boys establishment to secure progress for our community. But one thing is for sure: our opponents will make this a dirty, difficult election."
