An Eaton County Sheriff's Deputy who rescued a family from a burning condo is getting a rare award.

Deputy Andrew Jenkins will become the second law enforcement officer from Michigan to receive the Congressional Badge of Bravery from the U.S Attorney General's Office. The medals are awarded annually to officers show exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty.

Jenkins was first on scene when the condo on Creekside Drive in Delta Township caught fire on December 20th, 2016. Body camera video shows Jenkins going into the burning home and rescuing the family of three, two of whom are disabled.

According to the award's website, "As the fire intensified, Deputy Jenkins repeatedly entered the residence to rescue each of the occupants, physically carrying them as necessary, and moving them outside to safety. As he carried the last victim out of the residence, the fire flashed and engulfed the entire room and doorway. The Delta Charter Township Fire Chief John Clark later stated that at that instant, the temperature of the room was near 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit."

Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters will present the award to Jenkins during a special ceremony at the Eaton County Sheriff's Office on Friday, April 13th.
