DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A member of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office Heavy Rescue Unit had to be taken to the hospital after being involved in an accident in Delhi Township Monday.

A deputy was arriving at the scene of multiple crashes on US-127 near I-96 around 3:10 p.m. to assist with traffic control when a vehicle lost control in front of him, police said

The deputy was able to avoid hitting the vehicle but was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound on US-127.

The deputy was transported by Delhi Township Fire to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported and Michigan State Police are investigating the accident.

The Ingham County Sheriff's responded to nearly 30 crashes and slide-offs Monday, many on the I-96 corridor between Aurelius and Okemos roads.

The only reported injury was to the deputy. I-96 was closed for several hours in both directions between US-127 and Okemos Roads due to multiple crashes.

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is asking that drivers slow down and give more following distance to the vehicles in front of them when driving in wintry conditions.
