LANSING, Mich. — Protesters gathered at the State Capitol Building Thursday night..

According to the demonstrators the protest began at 6 p.m. and the protesters are there for a number of different reasons.

The main event was called "American Patriot Rally" organized by the American Patriot Organization.

The group says they wanted to educate the public on well regulated militia.

Many who were gathered there peacefully say they also wanted to stand up for the second amendment and express the importance of militias.

At one point during the protest, police brutality protesters stopped by and stood together in unity. They then left peacefully without incident.

The organizer of the event says they just want America to be a safe place for all.

"We had many mothers here that we're speaking today and they were scared about what do I do with my families if these terrorist groups like Antifa come to my neighborhood? We're really here empowering people with the right information and the right resources to make sure that they stay safe that are street stays safe that our country stays safe," said Ryan Kelley.

Kelley says in all he was pleased with the turn out of the event.
