LANSING, Mich. — Progress is being made in the mission to make downtown Lansing less of a food desert.

Demolition has begun at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Larch Street.

It's the future site of the multi-use space that will include a hotel, apartments, and a mini Meijer.

The project is being run by the Gillespie Group.

Last year, Pat Gillespie referred to the development as a "game changer" for downtown Lansing.

The opening of a grocery store will also bring between 25 - 30 jobs to the downtown area.

The hotel portion of the development will need to be staffed as well.

The entire project should be completed by October of next year.
