UPDATE: Delta Township carjacking suspect dies

According to the Eaton County Sheriff's Office, David Sprague was leading two acquaintances to a vehicle he'd stolen from them about seven weeks ago.

They noticed he had a gun and called police while Spraque went into Meijer to buy alcohol.

Deputies tried to pull them over.

Sprague forced the driver to keep going at gunpoint until they go to an apartment complex near the Lansing Mall, at which point he got out and ran.

Police eventually found him hiding in a shed on Riley Ridge Dr. Sprague shot himself before a negotiator arrived.

He died Monday morning.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Department tells us that David Lem Sprague, who was the subject of an hours-long manhunt in Delta Township after a carjacking has died as a result of injuries he received from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Sprague was found in a shed in Delta Township after a massive manhunt during the morning hours of Sunday, October 23, 2016.

Police began searching neighborhoods near the Lansing Mall in Delta Township around 3:00 a.m. after a carjacking incident where a man was seen with a gun.

The hunt for the suspect involved at least six police departments, including police K-9 units and the assistance of a Michigan State Police helicopter. Sprague was found in a shed by police officers several hours later on Sunday morning.

Police tried to negotiate with Sprague, before they say he shot himself in the head around 9:00 a.m. Sprague was taken to Sparrow Hospital in critical condition, where he later died of his injuries.
