A Detroit-area animal shelter is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever abused a dog found with multiple burns.
The Dearborn-based Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit says the injured dog was rescued Friday by Dearborn police. The young female mixed breed had been repeatedly burned on her back over a period of time.
The dog is recuperating after undergoing surgery.
Shelter Executive Director Elaine Green says the dog is sweet and trusting despite being abused. She tells The Detroit News shelter staff named the dog Phoenix "because we want to see her rise again."
The shelter initially offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, but an anonymous donor doubled that.
The shelter is seeking donations to pay for the dog's treatment.
