There are big changes at an intersection north of Mason that's been the scene of several crashes over the past few years.

According to the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, there were six accidents at the intersection of Howell and Okemos Roads last year; one of them was deadly.

The Ingham County Road Commission installed a new, four-way stop at the intersection last Friday.

Traffic has gotten heavier since businesses in the area have expanded.

"I drive that way every day and I see the cars backed up waiting to turn left or waiting to turn onto Howell Road from Okemos Road. It was apparent something needed to be done," said Ingham County Commissioner Robin Naeyaert.

Increased traffic also brings an increase in accidents.

In August 2018, a 76-year-old man was killed there.

Now that the stop sign is in place, making sure drivers abide by it could be a problem.

"The concern now is that those folks who travel that road routinely remember that now they have to come to a stop and that also can be an issue," said Captain Greg Harris with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office.
