The BWL has approved a rate hike on electric, water and steam rates for the next three years, beginning February of 2018. If the increase is passed, residential electric rates would spike by 3.9% in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. However, some of the customers News Ten spoke with are upset, but not about these new rates.

They are upset with the lack of transparency by BWL. Both of the people we spoke with had little to no idea about the rate increase until I asked them about it.

They said the company should have included it on their online bills or sent a letter in the mail about the proposal.

Both of the customers make no bones about their happiness that BWL is doing this as a means of transitioning to clean energy, but having more notice would have been better.

The rate increase is scheduled to start on February 1st, 2018.
